An Open Letter to Pope Leo XIV

As you embraced the papacy upon your election, facing a historic crowd at a historic time, the expressions on your face indicated overwhelm. With your lips sealed, you pulled in three strong vortexes of air through your nose, before exhaling from the same. It captured perfectly the state of the world, and the way forward.

In laying out the vision for your papacy, you recognized the "immense potential" of artificial intelligence but expressed grave concerns about resulting threats to "human dignity, justice, and labor". How could your papacy ensure that it can be used for the good of all? A starting point could be to build an Augustinian Intelligence grounded in the heavenly city of God, and the earthly City of Man, to counter the metaphysical war that artificial intelligence may be rocket fuel to.

While your election to the papacy is demonstrative of the influence of the Augustinian view in the Christian world, this may not be obvious to many Christians and non-Christians alike. An Augustinian Intelligence could help fulfill the Order's purpose of "bringing the Good News to the whole world so that we may transform the world from within".

The most important feature of the Augustinian view, as per my humble understanding, is its compatibility with mystical, spiritual, and metaphysical traditions across all Abrahamic and non-Abrahamic religions, including Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. Each of these traditions has built their own heavenly cities of God, mapping out the same underlying spiritual world through different symbols, concepts, poetry, art, and literary puzzles, foretelling the same metaphysical war. Yet, these cities of God stand ready to unleash the Devil on short notice, ignorant of Plato's observations about the nature of justice.

The task is a Goliath, but artificial intelligence is the perfect sling for any David on this path. All you need is a knowledge graph based on a schema derived from the City of God to an exhaustive collection of historical manuscripts across religious and cultural traditions. State-of-the-art reasoning models connected to this knowledge base with iterative, multi-step deep graph research.

This Augustinian Intelligence could draft economic policy documents, legislative proposals, communication strategies, conflict resolution proposals, etc.
